How Do Chiropractic Treatments Work?

Many people assume that chiropractors treat only back and neck ailments, because chiropractic treatments are primarily applied to the spinal region. Chiropractors and neck pain in Atlanta go together, right? In fact, we provide holistic health services for our patients. It all has to do with the relationship between the spine and the nervous system.

The nervous system is the primary controller of the living cells, tissues, and organs in your body. It has the job of orchestrating cellular functions. The spinal column encases the nervous system – the spinal cord and nerve roots – and is responsible for its protection. But what if the spinal column experiences biomechanical or structural problems? When that happens, the spinal column can actually irritate parts of the nervous system it is supposed to protect. This irritation can result from noxious inflammatory biochemicals released during tissue injury or may result from direct mechanical pressure.

In either case, the nervous system will fail to function properly and the negative impact will be felt in the cells, tissues, and organs which are supplied by the affected nerves. The resulting ailments depend on the cells, tissues, and organs affected, as well as the extent of the nervous system compromised.

Correcting spinal abnormalities that irritate the nervous system through skilled chiropractic care can lead to a number of favorable results in patients suffering from various, seemingly non-spinal health conditions.

If you think chiropractic care could help you or if you have more questions, schedule a free consultation with Gwinnett Medical at our Norcross chiropractic clinic or with a chiropractor in Lawrenceville at our facility there.
